Neil Perry

Neil Perry is an optimistic, funny, and extroverted character who makes sure to be there for all his friends, specially Todd. He is part of the Dead Poets Society after discovering it in a senior annual. His main purpose through the whole book is not only help Todd with his shyness, but also to make his dream of acting come true while his father disapproves of this.

I loved Neil so much because he is so nice towards everyone. It was sweet when he tried to make conversation with Todd the first time they meet, when he invited everyone to the club so no one could be left alone, him trying to comfort Todd because of his birthday present, and so much more! He is one of my favorites and every time he appeared, it felt like every problem happening in the school disappeared. As we learned more about his problems at home, and the expectations his parents have for him, it makes me feel bad for him.

All of this expectations he needs to meet, eventually lead him to his death. AND YOU KNOW WHAT IS WORSE??? That everyone believes it was the teacher's fault, and not the parents who pressured Neil. I- WHYYYY???? How DARE the author do this to me. The only ones who know the truth is Mr. Keating and the guys, but no one will ever believe them.

AND TODD!! He was so upset because of Neil's death. Everyone was upset because of Neil's death! And at the end of the day, Neil died young, without ever being able to achieve his dream of acting as a career, and instead died being pressured in the thought of living a life his father wants him to live.
